Brazilian Nuns Wow the Internet with Beatboxing on Catholic TV

Daily news News

Two nuns from Brazil have taken the internet by storm after an energetic and joyful beatbox and dance performance during a live Catholic TV program. Sisters Marizele Cassiano and Marisa de Paula, members of the Copiosa Redenção congregation, were appearing on Brazil’s religious channel Pai Eterno to talk about a vocational retreat. But what began as a typical discussion quickly turned into an unexpected celebration of rhythm and faith.

A Spontaneous Moment of Joy

While speaking about their experiences in religious life, the sisters brought up a song related to their calling. Without warning, they stood up and began to perform. Sister Marisa started dancing while Sister Marizele added beatboxing and vocals. Their energy filled the room and inspired the host, Deacon Giovani Bastos, to join in. The spontaneous moment was captured live and has since gone viral, garnering millions of views on social media both in Brazil and abroad.

“It all just happened so naturally,” Sister Marizele shared later. “With Sister Marisa, as soon as a beat starts, she’s dancing. And I’ve always been into singing and beatboxing, so it was just a fun and spontaneous moment. We never expected it to reach so many people.”

Using Music to Connect and Heal

More than just an entertaining clip, the sisters say their use of music is a tool they use in their mission. Their congregation works closely with young people, especially those recovering from drug addiction. For them, beatboxing and dancing are more than fun—they are part of their ministry.

“God uses these tools—music, rhythm, and movement—to reach hearts that are closed off,” said Sister Marizele. “We’ve seen how powerful it is. Music helps us create connection, build trust, and bring light into dark places. It’s truly beautiful.”

The joy and authenticity of their performance struck a chord with people worldwide, reflecting a growing openness within the Church to new forms of expression, especially when they bring hope and healing.

An Unexpected Social Media Rise

Though Sister Marisa doesn’t use social media, Sister Marizele’s presence online has grown rapidly since the video went viral. Her follower count on Instagram has surged past 100,000 as people continue to share and celebrate the joyful moment. Despite the attention, the sisters remain focused on their core mission: serving others and helping young women explore religious life.

They continue to promote spiritual retreats and offer guidance for those considering a vocation. Their message, however, has now reached far beyond the walls of their church or the borders of Brazil.

What started as a simple, joyful expression of faith has become a symbol of how tradition and modern culture can come together to inspire and uplift.
